The Story

Exceptional large scale mid-century Paolo Soleri siltcast ceramic bell with plaster-cast ceramic clapper, brass fin and chain. Wonderful patina consistent with age.

Siltcast Windbells are crafted much in the same way as Soleri’s siltcast buildings. Bell shapes and one-of-a-kind designs impressed into a bed of sifted, damp silt are transferred to the bell using a slip casting method. The resulting bells, further enhanced with carving, have rough textures and variable color patterns.

Siltcast bell 9" x 9" - top of bell to bottom of fin approximately 18"

Paolo Soleri (1919-2013), founder of Arcosanti
Through his work as an architect, urban designer, artist, craftsman, and philosopher, Paolo Soleri explored the countless possibilities of human aspiration. In his philosophy "arcology” (architecture + ecology), Soleri formulated a path that may aid us on our evolutionary journey toward a state of aesthetic, equity, and compassion. Soleiri Windbells have provided a major source of funding for Arcosanti and the Cosanti Foundation for over half a century.
